Surf Life Saving Australia’s iconic Coolangatta Gold will return to the Gold Coast 14-15 October and is set to be bigger and better than ever.   

One of the most challenging endurance races in surf sports, Shaw and Partners Financial Services Coolangatta Gold will have an added boost this year with an extra $76,000 up for grabs with a focus on the women’s, men’s and mixed relay short course events thanks to Race One Surf Craft. Entries are now open and with a total prize pool of $189,500 the stakes are higher than ever.  

The iconic annual event continues to grow with the downwind ski paddle returning after being contested for the first time in 2022, sure to attract the best ocean paddlers as well as Olympic kayakers.  

The event, made famous by the movie of the same name, will also see a new ​​youth event introduced for the first time, alongside the traditional long course, short course, and team events.  

Surf Life Saving Australia’s Sports Manager Wayne Druery said the 2023 Shaw and Partners Financial Services Coolangatta Gold is an event not to be missed.  

“The Coolangatta Gold is a staple on the surf sports calendar and the 2023 event will be no different,” Druery said. 

“Each year we welcome competitors from across the country and internationally to test themselves on the gruelling course that stretches across the iconic Gold Coast coastline. 

“We are excited to be working with Shaw and Partners Financial Services again this year and to see the event continue to grow. The increased prize money provided by Race One Surf Craft will encourage participation into this event and means the stakes are higher than ever before. 

“Thanks to the support of Shaw and Partners Financial Services, combined with Tourism & Events Queensland and Major Events Gold Coast, the 2023 Coolangatta Gold will open the 2023 summer of sport,” he said.
