The Shaw and Partners WA Race Week concluded last Saturday in Perth with the famous downwind race, "The Doctor."
Named after the sea breeze that brings relief to Perth's central districts on hot days, The Doctor is one of the world's largest ocean downwind paddling races, attracting ocean paddlers from across the globe.
With a prize pool of $180,000 this year, the Shaw and Partners WA Race Week saw record participation. Over 700 paddlers converged on the Western Australian capital to compete in the annual epic ocean surf ski paddling event, spanning 27 kilometres from Rottnest Island to Sorrento SLS Club in open ocean waters.
This year, Shaw and Partners Brand Ambassador Cory Hill once again demonstrated why he is considered one of the greatest ocean paddlers, completing the race in 1:48:04. With four previous Doctor wins, Cory's victory adds to his impressive streak of results, including his recent win at the Shaw and Partners Molokai Challenge in May. Cory finished the race ahead of Tom Norton and Gordan Harbrecht.
In the women's category, Shaw and Partners Brand Ambassador Jemma Smith claimed her first Doctor win with a time of 2:00:52, finishing ahead of Danielle McKenzie and Michelle Burn.
Shaw and Partners extends its congratulations to Cory, Jemma, and all Shaw and Partners athletes for their formidable achievements at the Shaw and Partners Doctor 2023.
