Operation Flinders 100km Challenge Foundation04 Nov 2015

A 100km race needs a lot of preparation.  Regular training runs, some long hikes through the evenings and a well-planned diet. In an ideal world, David Dall and Jed Richards would have followed that well-structured plan, however they had one big obstacle in the months leading up to race day. The veteran advisers left Macquarie Private Wealth after more than 30 years’ service between them (David 18 years and Jed 14 years) and established Shaw and Partners’ South Australian base as the newest investment firm in Adelaide. Setting up an office in Adelaide requires long hours and late nights. Not an ideal preparation for such an extreme event, but they persevered and made it to race day.

Together with matching funds from the Shaw and Partners Foundation, they raised $3,000 for the South Australian based charity, Operation Flinders. The money will go towards supporting young people at risk and young offenders who are taking on their own challenge in the form of an eight day adventure program in the Flinders Ranges.

Jed Richards has been appointed the South Australian state representative of the recently established Shaw and Partners Foundation and he is actively looking to support South Australian Charities in need which his staff have a connection with.

“For many reasons, South Australian charities need to be less reliant on government funding to ensure their own financial viability.  We are proud that Shaw and Partners is very focused on philanthropic responsibility and want us to play a strong role in supporting the communities in which we work,” Jed Richards said.

The 100km Operation Flinders Challenge starts at the River Torrens in the city, crosses the Mount Lofty ranges and finishes at the Kuitpo forest near Meadows. David and Jed completed the 100km race in 19 hours and 19 minutes and were the 6th team to complete the event.

Operation Flinders CEO Philip Johnson said: “Jed and David have been long term and fantastic supporters of the Operation Flinders Challenge for many years and over their journey have raised thousands of dollars assisting the Operation Flinders Foundation in helping to transform the lives of young people at risk. To complete the 100km event on several occasions now not only shows immense courage and resilience but also amazing support to the youth of South Australia.”
