This weekend, 12-13 October, the Gold Coast will host one of the most anticipated surf sports events of the year — the Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold.
We are incredibly proud to be the naming rights sponsor for the third consecutive year, supporting Australia’s most iconic and challenging race, which first gained fame through the 1984 movie of the same name. The Coolangatta Gold is a gruelling endurance event that involves a 23km surf-ski leg, followed by a 1km beach run, a 3.5km swim, a 6.1km board leg, and finishes with an 8.2km beach run. It’s truly a survival of the fittest!
This year’s event is particularly special as it celebrates the 40th anniversary of the inaugural race. In honour of the occasion, the 17 past winners will be celebrated, and a special screening of The Coolangatta Gold movie will be held at Queen Elizabeth Park at Coolangatta Beach on Saturday.
And we are thrilled to see strong representation from our Shaw and Partners brand ambassadors and athletes, including Ali Day (9x winner!), Lana Rogers (2x winner), Matt Bevilacqua (1x winner), Finn Askew, and Lucy Derbyshire to name a few. The weekend will also feature the Downwind Paddle across Ocean Ski, Double Ski, and Surf Ski disciplines, with Shaw and Partners Brand Ambassadors Cory Hill and Jemma Smith leading the charge.
