Shaw and Partners is delighted to be announced as as a Gold Partner of the newly opened Queer museum - Qtopia Sydney.
Qtopia is an independent not-for-profit organisation committed to empowerment, inclusivity, celebration, challenge and education.
Qtopia Sydney will provide transformative stories of LGBTQIA+ history and experiences to broaden the knowledge and perspectives of students, educators and the general public, through innovative education participatory programs.
The museum is currently located at two temporary spaces in Darlinghurst (Green Park and National Art School). We were thrilled for our new partners last week who received the news that both major State Parties have committed to hand the former Darlinghurst Police Station to Qtopia Sydney, pictured below, and they will be able to make arrangements to move in post-election.
In commenting on the partnership, Qtopia Sydney CEO Greg Fisher said he and the Board were delighted to have the financial support of Shaw and Partners, on the back of million dollar support from the Lachlan and Sarah Murdoch Foundation, announced at the launch of the Qtopia Sydney inaugural exhibition spaces.
“We have been buoyed by the support shown to us since the official launch of our exhibition spaces in February.
“Whilst we have been working for some time on cementing financial partners to allow us to make real our vision, the opening of our exhibition spaces, along with the commitment from both the NSW Government and the NSW Opposition to house the museum in the former Darlinghurst Police Station, has provided the necessary confidence to sponsors to donate – we always knew that bricks and mortar were vital – and now we have that bipartisan commitment to just that.”
“The team at Shaw and Partners are very much aligned with our vision and ethics and we look forward to utilising this funding to support our Volunteer program and events delivery over the coming twelve months,” said Fisher.
Shaw and Partners Co-CEO Earl Evans said he was thrilled that they were able to come on board as a Gold Partner.
“We think that Qtopia Sydney will play a vital role in ensuring that the Queer community, along with its stories and history, are told and heard,” he said.
“It is exciting to be involved at a very grass roots level at a time when Qtopia Sydney is really gaining traction and generating a lot of excitement within both the Queer and corporate arenas.
“We are delighted to be partnering with a passionate and committed organisation that is clearly driven to outcomes, echoing our own approach within the financial services sector,” said Evans.
“The Qtopia Museum will be a landmark within both this state and the country, and we are honoured to be a part of that journey,” he concluded.
