Northcliffe SLSC successfully defends their Australian Championship Crown 26 Apr 2021

This year over 8,000 members from Australia’s 315 Surf Clubs came together to compete in more than 480 beach and ocean events at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships held on the Sunshine Coast from 16 to 24 April. The “Aussies” is the largest event of its kind, only comparing the likes of the Commonwealth Games.

Shaw and Partners Brand Ambassador Ali Day added his name in history books, winning his first ever Australian Surf Life Saving Ironman crown. “If it’s a dream I never want to wake up’’ Day said after beating Newport’s Jackson Borg and Northcliffe’s Matt Bevilacqua.

With more than two years on the sideline due to injury, Day’s comeback this season has been flawless, winning all rounds of the Nutri-Grain Ironman Series and now taking out the prestigious 2021 Australian Ironman title.

In the Ironwoman event, Shaw and Partners Brand Ambassador Georgia Miller successfully defended her Australian Ironwoman title, delivering an impressive final and finishing ahead of Nutri-Grain Series champion Lana Rogers and Lizzie Wellborn. Georgia concluded the Aussies with an impressive nine gold medals across both individual and team events.

In the Male Taplin Relay, North Bondi SLSC claimed a historic gold medal, the first ever for the club, headed by Shaw and Partners Race Team Manager Jim Walker.

The Taplin Relay is possibly the most iconic and fiercely contested event in competitive Surf Life Saving. It's one of the biggest sources of inter-club rivalry, because every club wants to win it. The Taplin highlights the breadth and depth of a club's talent, demanding excellent all-round fitness and ability across the three major disciplines - board, ski and swim.

North Bondi, headed by Shaw and Partners Brand Ambassador and staff member Jackson Collins, delivered a sensational win ahead of Northcliffe and Newport SLSC. Jackson Collins went on to win the Open Male Single Ski, capping off his 2021 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships in style.

In the Female Taplin Relay, Northcliffe was represented by Shaw and Partners Race Team member Danielle McKenzie, Brand Ambassador Georgia Miller and Hannah Sculley who took out the win, ahead of Newport and Maroochydore.

In the Open Male Board race, Shaw and Partners Brand Ambassador Matt Bevilacqua took home the gold medal, helping Northcliffe to successfully defend their Australian Championship Crown with a clean sweep of all the Australian Senior Pointscores.  Northcliffe has a proud history in surf sports competition. The Club has been the undefeated Australian Champion Club since 2004 and the World Champion Club since 2008.

Shaw and Partners has been a proud sponsor of North Bondi SLSC since 2015 and BMD Northcliffe since 2019. We extend our congratulations to all participating athletes for their outstanding achievements and look forward to the 2022 season.
