2016 Foundation Insto Day Foundation22 Jun 2016

On Wednesday 22 June 2016, we launched our inaugural Foundation Institutional Trading Day. A total of $109, 398.35 in brokerage was generated from institutional trades on the day, every last dollar of which was donated in a 50/50 split to two beneficiary charities; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and Beyond Blue.

Shaw and Partners Board Member and Head of Private Wealth, Earl Evans, said the idea for a Foundation Institutional Day was generated by staff, who were asked to contribute ideas to benefit charities through the Shaw and Partners Foundation.

Mr Evans believes that corporate organisations have a social responsibility to give back to the communities they work in, but having a charitable Foundation that was active and effective in finding innovative ways to raise money for vulnerable people was also a galvanizing force among Shaw and Partners’ staff. “Our people are all very proud of our Foundation and what it does for the community,” he said.

The Shaw and Partners Foundation was established in July last year with a mission to instill and perpetuate change in the fabric of Australian society, whilst providing a platform for greater participation in community service.

The Shaw and Partners Foundation matches employee donations dollar for dollar, to charities of their choice. To date, the Foundation has supported JDRF, Beyond Blue, the Cancer Council, The Smith Family, White Ribbon Day and Operation Flinders. In its first 12 months since conception, the Foundation has raised and donated to charity over $200,000 - no mean feat from a standing start.

The significant Institutional Day donation comes off the back of an additional donation of $84,000 in May this year, which was raised by Mr Evans and the Victorian State Manager, Malcolm Cameron. Both men competed in the Maui Jim Molokai Challenge, paddling surf skis 53km across the Kaiwi channel (Channel of Bones), finishing in Oahu, Hawaii to raise money for JDRF.

Mr Evans said the wheels for next year’s Foundation Institutional Day have already been set into motion, with plans to make it bigger and better than the last, and with a broadened focus on recipient charities.
